A hot new gear lube comparison paper was completed earlier this month and will be available in hard-copy on the first of October.  This document, "A Study of Automotive Gear Lubes", reviews the demands placed on modern fuel-efficient gear lubricants and the testing that is required to ensure products on the shelf meet manufacturer's requirements.  Products tested include 75W-90 and 80W-90 from AMSOIL�, Castrol�, GM�, Lucas�, Mobil 1�, Chrysler�, Pennzoil�, Red Line�, Royal Purple�, Torco�, and Valvoline�.  The complete paper is available here or by clicking the picture to the left.  It's in Adobe� Acrobat� format.

1 Mar '07 New 100% Synthetic 0W-20 Motor Oil

Now available - a long-drain oil for 0W-20 and 5W-20 applications!  Ford, Honda, Acura, DaimlerChrysler, and Toyota all recommend fuel efficient 0W-20 or 5W-20 engine oils.  This new product, designed for 1 year or 25,000 miles of normal service, and 1 year or 15,000 miles of severe service, gives the the best possible engine protection, cleanliness and performance over the entire extended oil change interval.  This formula excels in cold-weather starting - down to minus 65F - yet protects beautifully in high temperatures, thanks to it's premium synthetic base oil and advanced anti-wear chemistry.  If you drive a hybrid to save fuel and reduce emissions, count on AMSOIL 0W-20 to help - longer drain intervals mean less oil used, less waste oil generated, lower emissions due to lower volatility (burn-off), and fewer used oil filters when using AMSOIL's Absolue Efficiency oil filters.  This oil and filter combination gives most people one oil and filter change per year.

1 Feb '07 New Severe Gear 75W-110 Synthetic Gear Lube

AMSOIL introduced a new viscosity gear lube grade that fills the gap between the 75W-90 and 75W-140 viscosity gear lubes that most motorists are accustomed to using.  Many used the 75W-140 to obtain extra film protection beyond what the 75W-90 viscosity grade offered for their differentials, but found that they sacrificed fuel economy by doing so. This new viscosity grade, 75W-110, offers a high temperature film protection beyond what a 75W-90 offers, without compromising fuel economy.  This new mid-range viscosity grade for gear lubes addresses  performance, protection and fuel economy.

25 Jan '07 AMSOIL Synthetic ATF is recommended for the latest manufacturer specifications.

     Automatic transmission technology has been quickly evolving over the past few years.  Six-speed transmissions are becoming more common, and automakers are demanding higher quality, longer lasting transmission fluids to protect these transmissions.

Ford Motor Company, on the other hand, recently announced the retirement of its MERCON � automatic transmission fluid specification, opting to promote its more stringent MERCON� V specification that requires improved anti-oxidation, antiwear and antishudder properties. Ford also introduced its MERCON� SP specification in 2004.  Designed for high torque six-speed transmissions, MERCON SP fluids have lower viscosity requirements and more stringent cold-temperature Brookfield viscosity requirements.

     AMSOIL Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) exceeds the performance requirements for domestic and foreign automatic transmission fluid applications, and is now recommended for cars and trucks calling for DEXRON VI, MERCON V & SP, NAG 1 & 2 and Nissan Matic J & K transmission fluids. AMSOIL ATF provides automatic transmissions, power steering units and hydraulic equipment with excellent lubricating protection and better performance over a wider temperature range than conventional automatic transmission fluids.

As with all AMSOIL fuel additives, AMSOIL Cetane Boost has been updated in recent months and is now available in more convenient packaging.  AMSOIL Cetane Boost now comes in a 16 ox. clear bottle with a graduation on the side to ensure correct dosages.

AMSOIL Cetane Boost improves diesel fuel quality to benefit all diesel engines, especially high performance designs.  Supported by extensive testing and years of field trial use, AMSOIL Cetane Boost has repeatedly demonstrated its ability to improve diesel engine performance, increasing cetane value by up to seven points.

AMSOIL Cetane Boost reduces operating costs by increasing fuel economy up to two percent.  It improves the spontaneous auto-ignition point of diesel fuel, shortening ignition lag time  This provides more complete combustion for better performance, power and drivability.

1 Nov '06  AMSOIL Releases CJ-4 Diesel Engine Oil

High-tech emission control devices required for diesel engines by 2007 Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandates have forced a complete update of diesel engine oil technology.  The addition of diesel particulate filters and advanced exhaust catalytic converters will make diesel vehicles as clean as vehicles with gasoline engines.  AMSOIL Synthetic 5W-40 (DEO) is the premium choice for API CJ-4 emission quality diesel oil required by model year 2007 and newer diesel engines.  It delivers extraordinary lubrication in diesel engines found in commercial, fleet, and personal vehicles.  Built with the latest additive and synthetic base oil technology, it exceeds the higher performance demands of modern engines.  It withstands the stress of heat, soot, and acids to help prevent deposits, corrosion, and wear.  AMSOIL Synthetic 5W-40 is ideal for both winter and summer use.  It is available in quarts, gallons, and drum quantities.

2007 engines will use higher rates of exhaust gas recirculation to control emissions.  This increases heat, soot, and acids in the engine.  CJ-4 engine oil is required to control the extra soot and acid, while also protecting catalytic converters and diesel particulate filters.

AMSOIL Overhauls Diesel Fuel Additives!

AMSOIL has reformulated their line of diesel fuel additives to respond to the introduction of ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel.  The new products are Diesel Concentrate (ADF) and Cold Flow Improver (DFF).  Each is available in a 16 ounce plastic bottle designed to be easy to add when refueling.  Each bottle has markings on the side so the exact amount can be added.  Mixing rates are standardized across all diesel additives - one ounce to 5 gallons of fuel.  The new products will be available on October first.

Diesel Concentrate (ADF)

AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate has been reformulated with additional lubricity properties. Diesel Cold Flow Improver
Combining AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate with a cold flow improvement property is not cost effective in the summer months, or to AMSOIL customers who live in the south. To keep costs down for customers, AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate (ADF) no longer includes a cold flow improver. Instead, AMSOIL provides new AMSOIL Diesel Cold Flow Improver (DFF) for low-temperature applications below 40�.
